Dean Brody’s latest #1 hit, “Canadian Summer,” is a personal achievement for him and an important achievement for the Canadian country music industry.

The song reached the top of the Billboard Canadian Country Music Airplay chart this week having been played a total of 1,817 times. That has set the record for the most “spins” in one week since the chart began in 2013! It breaks the record Dean himself had set earlier this year with The Reklaws on their collaboration, “Can’t Help Myself.” Dean joins Dallas Smith in becoming the only Canadian artists to score two #1’s so far this year.

Brody says, “Breaking records at this point in my career feels surreal and I’m so proud to be doing it with a song like ‘Canadian Summer’—a song about us and the place we call home. Thank you to my fans, my team and my friends at country radio; none of this would be possible without you.”

“Canadian Summer” is Dean’s fourth #1 hit on the chart and is an important marker in the history of the chart. The song is the 12th Canadian chart-topper this year on a chart that includes airplay in Canada by major American country artists, too. That ties the record set last year for the most Canadian #1 hits in one year. With three months left in the year, it seems 2020 could be a record year for Canadians.

It’s a far cry from when the chart began in 2013. That year, only two Canadian songs made it to #1…and one of them was Dean’s hit “Bounty.”

Brody may not have much time to celebrate this weekend. He has two live concerts set for tomorrow in Toronto and another on Sunday in Ottawa. Plus, he’ll be one of the performers on Sunday night’s Canadian Country Music Awards, to be broadcast on Global TV.
