If anyone knows how to throw a summer party … it’s the birthday boys and girls whose parties fall in the heat of summer every year. This weekend, it’s another all-weekend party. This time, we’re tipping our hats to the August babies. It’s the August Birthdays weekend! Playing songs by your favourite artists born in your favourite month! It all starts Friday night on #1 for Country!

#TBT… Kindergarten • • This is me at 5 years old, in 1975, when I lived near a small town called Boston Bar, BC. My family owned a truck stop/gas bar called The Jackass Inn. This is a true story so don’t stop reading there!! The restaurant was situated at the foot of Jackass Mountain on Jackass Flats. It was named this because back in the Gold Rush Days this was the site where several donkeys, or jackasses, that were hauling people and goods to the Klondike fell off the cliff around 1000 feet or so into the Fraser River. I went to kindergarten in a small village called North Bend, across the river from Boston Bar. My teacher was named Mrs. Sarazawa; I don’t know why I remember that so well. Anyhow, the smile on my face was one that seemed to always be there, my family tells me, and I was “always the entertainer”, they would say. So, it really comes with little surprise that I became a singer; always trying to put smiles on peoples faces. Truth be known, a lot of what happened at Jackass gave little to smile about. That little boy you see in the picture, and his (then) 7 and 9 year old sisters saw, and were put through, some of the worst conditions imaginable. It’s hard for some to even comprehend when I tell the stories of some of the events that took place, but they’re the truth. Nonetheless, we persevered. We survived and we succeeded to create a life where those instances and circumstances would never be repeated, or habits and actions would ever be handed down to our children. Regardless of how harsh our environment was, we have made it through, and continue to do so today. My real point of this post is not to look for sympathy, empathy or pity but to really thank the incredible people at @mamasformamas for all they do for those in need so that this type of situation can be either ended or completely avoided for the ones who need it to. @shannon2031 and your entire team, you are changing peoples worlds for the better. You are soooo loved for that! I wish Mama’s For Mama’s was around when I was this cheerful, little 5 year old because my world would be a completely different one if my Mom had a little more support. I truly believe that.

To be given my own space in a building that is full of such rich history is something I don’t take lightly. When the Country Music Hall of Fame & Museum kindly asked me if I would be into doing something like this I, of course, was flattered and honored but there was also a big part of me that felt unsure. Unworthy. Too young. And not near finished writing my chapters! They assured me it was a great time to share more of them, tho. All the many details, visions, and memories of my childhood. My idols, my teachers, [my detention slips], my lyrics, my family, [awkward hair choices] and all the crazy, sparkly adventures I’ve had getting from little bitty Golden, Texas to Nashville and then everything after. I didn’t expect the end result to make me as emotional but to see everything laid out in a physical sense..in a physical timeline from birth to where I am right now is a really nostalgic and beautiful feeling for me because there’s just so much that you forget. I’m somebody that gets really focused and excited about what’s right in front of me and then I check it off and move on to the next thing. A lot can get lost in the blur of all the busyness if you don’t let yourself revisit and acknowledge it every now and then. So, I’m taking the chance and I’m sharing it with you! My mama @karenmusgravesartist worked really hard to curate this exhibit with the @officialcmhof..things she and I have held onto for years and years along with many other special articles I wanted to freeze in time. (or at least until June 2020.) Come see it if ya get the chance. It’s called #AllOfTheColors
