Follow these easy tips to get your bedroom in tip-top shape quickly and efficiently.

Some people will argue that the bedroom is the most important room in your home. After all, we spend lots of time in that room and a restful sleep is key to optimal health. And there’s nothing like the smell of clean sheets and the look of a clutter-free bedroom to help ease you into those much-needed zzz’s.

Start by doing a deep clean and dust of your room. This will help get rid of allergens and hopefully prevent those spring sniffles. Sometimes it’s easy to forget some of the less obvious places, so make sure to follow this guide:

1. Freshen your bedding

You should only wash your duvet at most once a year. Wash it on a gentle cycle, and make sure all the soap is washed out (you may need to run two cycles). Then into the dryer the duvet goes. Tip: To retain your duvet’s fluffiness, throw a couple of tennis balls in with your duvet when drying.

Keep your sheet sets together by folding both the flat and fitted sheets inside the matching pillowcase. No more confusion, you’ll always know which sheet belongs to which set. Stack each according to size (twin, double, queen, king).

Do the pillow fold test: Fold your pillow in half lengthwise and hold for 30 seconds. When you release the pillow it should spring back to its original shape. If the pillow stays folded, you should throw it out. Lumps and bumps on your pillow are also good indicators that it is time to shop for a new one.

2. Flip and rotate your mattress

This should be done seasonally. If you don’t remember the last time you did it, it’s probably time!

3. Vacuum

Do a thorough vacuum of your bedroom making sure to include the closet, curtains and under any furniture.

4. Wipe all surfaces

Wash your windows and wipe light switches, fixtures, door knobs and mirrors.
