Have you ever been peeling a banana and wondered, what are those stringy bits that always seem to get in the way? Well the Unbalanced Breakfast has the answer!

I love me a good banana, but one thing that’s always annoyed me about them are those stringy bits you get when you peel it. Well apparently those things have a name. They’re known as phloem (pronounced flom). They act as veins to bring nutrients to the fruit, and if you don’t like them, peel your banana from the bottom up and apparently you won’t get them!

You can get more facts like this during Ginger Snaps, weekdays at 6:40a and 8:40a! What are you doing this weekend? Let us know on The Unbalanced Breakfast Facebook page!
