Last Friday our Morning Show decided we needed to do something for Fort Mac…Kenny’s wife is from there, he worked on 93.3 for years, both his kids were born there and it’s what we do…take care of family!

We called a butcher in Carleton Place last Friday and asked if they wanted to help out…they said “Hell yeah!” Then the butcher called his friends at the local grocery store, Mitchell’s Independent and Giant Tiger, within 2 hours we had EVERYTHING donated and a overwhelming response from the community about the event.

Our BBQ for Fort McMurray was supposed to run from 3pm-6pm yesterday but there were so many people waiting yesterday morning, they started cooking at noon…and when Kenny and Big Ginger got there, there was a monstrous crowd. (Check out the video on our FB page)

After almost 8 HOURS, we served over 225 pounds of pulled pork, 800 burgers, 400 hotdogs and 240 sausages!!!! The outstanding community and Country 101.1 listeners raised an outstanding $12,285.01, this will be donated to the Red Cross – Alberta Fire Relief Fund and will help those in Fort McMurray!

I can’t possibly express how proud I am feeling right now!

To the local business (The Beckwith Butcher, Mitchell’s Independent and Giant Tiger) that stepped up, the community that came out and shut down McNeely Ave in Carleton Place, our promo and sales teams, (especially Lisa, Liz and Janis who attended and worked the event) the COUNTRY 101.1 on air team who sold this event and believed in it AND to Kenny & Big Ginger who spent 6 hours AFTER their workday shaking hands and personally thanking the hundreds of listeners who showed up to support this cause…THANK YOU and CONGRATULATIONS!!!
